John Bourke
John Bourke of !Trash Yourself returned to St. Louis this weekend to play The Pageant with local trashers London Calling. We had an opportunity to catch up with John. Here’s what went down:

NV: How do you like St. Louis?
Bourke: STL is great! This is my 5th time to play here. Always a great time.

NV: What is your #1 must-do/must-see when you visit?
Bourke: I always enjoy going to the park. This trip I made it to the art museum to see the action / abstraction exhibit. Go check it out if you haven’t yet. There is a huge 3 panel piece by Richter that I really loved.

NV: Fill us in on your production / remix work?
Bourke: I’m working on a remix album for El Paso Hot Button at the moment. Hope to have that finished up this month. More originals are on the way after that. We have a new one with The Toxic Avenger that is pretty much done. Called “Die.” It’s like 90% done. We just sent it back to him and are waiting for him to put some finishing touches on it.

NV: Who have you enjoyed working with the most?
Bourke: I just started a new [album] with a LA band, Ultraviolet Sound. It was really amazing working in their studio. The signer Sarah’s dad is a songwriter in LA. He wrote like Aerosmith’s “Living on the Edge” and stuff like that. So we got to use his studio for a few days while he was out of town. I basically got to use all the toys I have been hearing about for years but never seen. Instead of using software compressors we were using a $3,000 hardware compressor for a kickdrum. It was really fun. When collaborating with other artists its generally all done online. It was really cool actually sitting next to someone in the studio and feeding off each other. They are great people to work with in the studio, very passionate about what they are doing. I’m supposed to meet them in Vegas to finish that up in Jan/Feb.

NV: What are you looking forward to in 2009?
Bourke: WRITING! I’ve been traveling a lot more in 2008 which has been great, but I’m ready to finish up the numerous projects which have been started.

NV: When will we see you again?
Bourke: I’ll be back in STL in a few months for a show. Probably shouldn’t say where yet. But stay tuned!

Stay tuned we will, and while we’re waiting check out Trash Yourself’s latest release, “Forget It.”
