It’s getting hot out there, and so I’m bringing this spring series home with a massive post on DFA Records. DFA is short for Death From Above, and they probably need little to no introduction especially if, like me, you are looking forward to the upcoming LCD Soundsystem album. Back in 2002, the Warhol-Basquiat-postpunk stylings of LCD Soundsystem’s “Losing My Edge” struck me like the lightning bolt in the logo. Since then DFA releases have become fixtures on electro dancefloors everywhere. The roster of artists on DFA are known for blending elements of electro, disco, house, punk, techno. . . basically any good music–they take elements and blend into something surprisingly new, yet classic in feel. The downloads include an LCD Soundsystem remix by Kris Menace; two tracks by The Juan Maclean with Surkin on the remix of one; Ray Mang‘s recent collaboration with Lady Kier formerly of Dee-Lite; Shit Robot’s Norfolk Nights, and Gavin Russom latest project as The Crystal Ark (If you know songs by Black Leotard Front or Black Meteoric Star, then you know Russom’s work! I posted a mix from him here.)
