Chew Fu Interview
No time for fluff or filler, let’s get right back into our interview with Chew Fu. And if you can’t wait to get to the music, go ahead and click through and start peeping day two of exclusive joints for your next radio mix… hint hint

NoVegans: When we’re discussin business with other deejays, the name Chew Fu always gets mentioned and it never fails, everybody’s always like man that dude’s sound is sick. Tell us about your process for finding and “chewing” up that next hot joint.

Chew Fu: I stay diggin’ in the crates and I’m constantly researching what’s next to stay ahead of the curve. In fact we have a member on our team responsible for keeping my inbox flush with tomorrow hottest shit today and uncovering that obscure classic gem that has yet to be touched. Shout out to Shaft!

Whenever I touch a track I set out to make a classic…In some cases a new classic from an old classic and in other cases, a classic from a joint that’s not yet a classic. Put that in your computer and process it!

But for real… It’s all about the WOW factor for me… When a DJ sees the title of my remix I want her/his response prior to hearing that joint to be… “AM I READING THIS RIGHT… I KNOW CHEW DIDN’T JUST REMIX THAT JOINT… IMPOSSIBLE… IT WILL NEVER WORK.” After hearing the track their initial response will invariably be followed by…. “ARE YOU KIDDING ME… THAT JOINT IS BLAZIN’… I CAN’T BELIEVE HE MADE IT WORK….HE PUT THE LIME IN THE COCONUT AND DRINK IT ALL UP…FOR REAL”

NoVegans: You definitely gotta lotta peeps drinkin what you be servin up. So let’s keep with that theme of how you do what you do. Which is it? Old school – new school – software, hardware, instruments… you tell us.

Chew Fu: I’m pretty loyal to LogicPro for Mac. You could say that I use them pretty exclusively… so much that I’m surprised that somebody from Logic hasn’t approached your boy with an endorsement deal or something… hint… hint

Nah… on the real, I take my musicianship very seriously and play all the instruments you hear on my tracks. I am a saxophonist by trade, but have been known to pick up everything from a guitar to some bongos. 99.772% of the tracks I create are devoid of music created and borrowed by a third party… Unless, of course, that third party is me. Truth be told, I have literally spent years creating my own samples from music I’ve composed and played. These Chew Fu-created samples, loops, and sounds serve as the foundation to my music to this day.

NoVegans: Any plans for releasing a Chew Fu samples pack? lol

Chew Fu: I’m currently in various stages of production on four albums for the two labels I own with my business partner onefraz. Amongst the four is my own album…(more on that later)…So…the next release you’ll probably get from me is my own joint…

NoVegans: Aiight aiight – so we know you’re just finishing up a massive international trip, so on the real, what’s next?

Chew Fu: Be on the lookout for your boy this summer in a city near you… I will be in the States and Canada touring. As far as new music is concerned, in addition to the weekly exclusives that I serve up on blogs like Palms Out and NO VEGANS and the production, remixes, and refixes that I’m currently working on for some of your favorite artists, I am putting the finishing touches on my new album entitled “Serial Fixer.” The album features new production and exclusive refixes including a blazin’ joint I did with Hip-Hop Icon Doug E. Fresh called “Do It Like This.”

In addition, I’m finishing up production on “J-Cast for President” the freshman album of Jayson Castor aka J-Cast, the first artist signed to our new Youngstar mbc imprint. I’m telling you the kid has star written all over him and he comes from damn good stock too boot. J-Cast is the son of Funk Soul Legend/Rock & Roll Hall-of-Famer Jimmy Castor, the God father of progressive B-Boy.

Both the J-Cast and Serial Fixer albums are FIRE… what else would you expect… I produced, mixed, mastered and musically arranged all the jizzoints… he he he… We’ve drawn some major interest from quite a number of majors… We’re trying to figure out which one to roll with as we speak… Let’s just say that a couple of them feel Rolling Stone Magazine was on point when they recently wrote that the sound I created was the “FUTURE of Dance Music” But don’t worry, your boy will not be selling out! Never that!!!!

NoVegans: That’s definitely nice to hear, and we know you will do well. Any other collaborations on the forefront?

Chew Fu: I almost forgot to mention the collabo I’m working on with my boy, super producer Jason Nevins, who is a big Chew Fu supporter and was super instrumental in seeing to it that my recent Ghettohouse refixes of Britney’s “if U seek Amy” and the Black Eyed Peas’ “BOOM BOOM POW” where destroying the airwaves at Z100 in NYC.

We got alot poppin’…for real!!!!!!

We hear dat! And we definitely need to do our part to get Chew Fu’s sound heard on radio stations across the nation. That’s why today, we’re reposting Chew Fu’s two most recent club bangers… the extended edits of Britney and Black Eyed Peas. AND for the first time (and for all you radio deejays) we’re putting up the exclusive CLEAN radio edits that Z100 has been rockin (never before released to the public). Get on this folks, and call your local radio station to help spread this blazin sound. Its what we like to call the future of music, and if you don’t know, now you know…
